Spiliotissa Monastery and Bottega Museum Café Private Visit

Whether you are a believer or not, this private visit will definitely make you a disciple of Zakynthos’ most original side…

Let’s get started at the monastery of the “Holy Mother at the caves” (Spiliotissa)”, built in the 16th century. A real nun will guide you through the evocative exteriors and interiors of the church to the essence of the Greek Orthodoxy as it is reflected in the blackened and silver plated iconography of Virgin Mary which was discovered in a nearby cave 400 years ago.

Take a deep breath and enjoy the green landscape which surrounds you while heading to the picturesque Orthonies village. You are in the place where the travel back in time begins. Stepping into the Bottega Museum Café is like being transferred to the begone era of Zakynthos. A replica of a local home from the past awaits you to tell you original stories of how old Zakynthians used to live, eat, cook, work and spend their day.

What’s for dessert? The  homemade fruit spoon sweet or the mama’s handmade cake (a TripAdvisor’s star already) along with a cup of tea or Greek coffee.
